My safety team – preschool- and primary school-aged children

Components
  • Activity/poster

Your ‘safety team’ or ‘safety network’ is a group of adults you choose to keep you safe. They are called ‘safety helpers’, ‘safe people’ or ‘trusted adults’. This activity will help you create your safety team by listing your safety team on one hand. You can find a hand to print and fill out in the PDF version linked above.

You may like to complete this activity with a friend, family member or other adult and see who they list as their safety team.

  1. List your safety helpers. A safety helper is someone that you trust and feel safe around. You can talk to them if you ever feel worried, scared or unsafe, or if you have questions about staying safe. They will listen, believe and help you. They must be adults and should include someone who lives at home, males and females, as well as people who live outside your home.

Suggestions: mum, dad, carer, grandparent, aunty/uncle, teacher, principal, friend of mum or dad, police, Kids Helpline

In an emergency, you should call Triple Zero (000).

You can call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800. They provide 24/7 help and support for children and young people.
  2. Trace, colour in and cut out your hand.
  3. Show the adults on your list. You may also want to give them the Being a safety helper activity.
